6. 2005, soul singer Luther Vandross died at the age of 54 at the JFK Medical Centre in New Jersey, two years after suffering a major stroke. Vandross had won four Grammys for his final album ‘Dance With My Father.’

1. 1971, Doors singer Jim Morrison was found dead in a bathtub in Paris, the cause of death was given as a heart attack.
2. 1973, Laurens Hammond the inventor of the Hammond organ died aged 73.
3. 1982, The Human League started a three week run at No.1 on the US singles charts with 'Don't You Want Me', also a UK No.1.
4. 1986, U2 crew member Greg Carroll was killed in a motorcycle accident in Dublin while running an errand for Bono.
5. 1996, The Fugees held the UK No.1 position on the singles chart with 'Killing Me Softly'.
6. 2002, Sir Elton John became the first person to be made an honorary doctorate from the Royal Academy Of Music.

4. 1971, Donald McPherson lead singer of US soul group Main Ingredient died of leukaemia aged 30.
5. 1973, Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler married Robert Sullivan.
6. 1974, Barry White married Glodean James, a member of his backing group Love Unlimited.
7. 1982, Ozzy Osbourne married Sharon Arden, the daughter of music business manager Don Arden.
8. 1999, Victoria 'Posh Spice' Adams married footballer David Beckham at Luttrellstown Castle, Ireland. The couple had signed a deal worth £1million for OK magazine to have the exclusive picture rights
9. 2003, soul singer and producer Barry White died from Kidney failure aged 58.

2. 1986, Billy Ocean went to No.1 on the US singles chart with 'There'll Be Sad Songs
3. 1999, The Eurythmics announced their first world tour for more than 10 years and that all profits would be given to charity. The duo made the announcement from the Greenpeace boat 'Rainbow Warrior' moored on the River Thames in London.
4. 2002, It was reported that Dr Dre had become the richest music star after earning £62m in the last year, £37m from his own earnings plus £25m from his record label Aftermath.
5. 2007, Jazz singer and author George Melly died at his London home at the age of 80 of lung cancer and vascular dementia.

5. 1996, Crowded House went to No.1 on the UK album chart with 'The Very Best Of' album.
6. 2001, a pair of Sir Elton John's sandals was set to become the most expensive shoes in history when they went under the hammer for charity. Offers over £20,000 were invited for the Salvatore Ferragamo sandals to raise funds for Elton's Aid Trust.

2. 1984, Bruce Springsteen went to No.1 on the US album chart with 'Born In The USA'. The album went on to spend a total of 139 weeks on the US chart. Its also one of three albums (Michael Jackson's Thriller and Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814) to produce seven Top-ten US singles.
3. 1984, Prince started a five week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'When Doves Cry', his first US No.1 which went on to sell over 2 million copies, it made No. 4 in the UK.

2. 1999, Take That's former manager Nigel Martin Smith started a new business, as an undertaker. It was reported that he was unhappy with a service he had used so he decided to buy a local funeral firm in Manchester.

2. 1963, The Rolling Stones played their first ever gig outside London when they appeared at The Alcove Club, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire supporting The Hollies.
3. 1964, The Animals went to No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'House Of The Rising Sun.' This was the first Number 1 to have a playing time of more than four minutes.
4. 1985, Elton John re-signed with MCA Records in America, his five-album deal being worth $8 million, the biggest advance in history at the time.
5. 1990, Curtis Mayfield was badly injured after a strong gust of wind blew a lighting rig on him during a outside concert in Brooklyn, New York.
6. 1991, The Everly Brothers foundation bought 80 acres of land in the brother's hometown, planning to build a theme park and museum in honour of the duo.
7. 2007, Rod Stewart collected his CBE from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace. The singer who was honoured for his services to music wore a skull and crossbones tie, white trousers and a stripy shirt instead of the conventional morning suit.

2. 1973, During a concert at the John Wayne Theatre in Hollywood, California, Phil Everly smashed his guitar and stormed of stage, Don finished the set by himself and announced that The Everly Brothers had split.
3. 1978, Born on this day, Ruben Studdard, singer, winner of the second series of American Idol.
4. 1980, Allen Klein ex manager of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones began serving a two-month prison sentence for falsifying tax returns.
5. 2007, a pair of glasses worn by former Beatle John Lennon sparked a bidding war after being offered for sale online. The circular sunglasses were worn by Lennon during the Beatles 1966 tour of Japan, where the band played some of their last ever live dates.

4. 1972, Members from Sly and the Family Stone were arrested after police found two pounds of marijuana in the group's motor home.
5. 1987, Talking Heads David Byrne married actress Adelle Lutz.
6. 1991, Bobby Brown married Whitney Houston at her New Jersey estate.
7. 1994, Cranberries singer Dolores O'Riordan married ex Duran Duran manager Don Burton.

1. 1958, the manager of The Drifters, George Treadwell, sacked the entire group and hired the unknown Ben E King and The Five Crowns as their replacements.
2. 1972, Rolling Stones Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were arrested in Warwick, Rhode Island on charges of assault after a fight broke out with a newspaper photographer.
3. 1987, Bruce Springsteen played his first ever show behind the Iron Curtain when he appeared in East Berlin in front of 180,000 people. The show was broadcast on East German TV.
4. 1989, after large amounts of money were found in his cell, James Brown was moved from a minimum-security prison to a medium security jail.

6. 2003, James Brown announced his separation from his fourth wife using an advertisement featuring the Disney character Goofy. The 70-year-old placed the notice in Variety magazine, it featured a picture of himself, his wife Tomi Rae and their two-year-old son, James Joseph Brown II, posing with Goofy at Walt Disney World.
7. 2005, research by a car insurance company showed that listening to the wrong sort of music when driving can lead to aggression and distraction. Dr Nicola Dibben a music psychologist said “singing while driving stimulates the mind.”

3. 1992, Bruce Springsteen became a father when Patti Sciafa gave birth to a baby boy, Evan James.
4. 2004, Jimmy Buffett went to No.1 on the US album chart with ‘License To Chill.’

2. 1968, The Jackson Five signed a one-year contract with Motown Records.
3. 1977, Elvis Costello was arrested as he performed outside a CBS Records sales conference at The London Hilton Hotel and was fined £5.
4. 2001, Sir Paul McCartney announced his engagement to Heather Mills, the anti-landmine campaigner and former model.

2. 1958, fan's of rock & roll music were warned that tuning into music on the car radio could cost you more money. Researchers from the Esso gas company said the rhythm of rock & roll could cause the driver to be foot heavy on the pedal, making them waste fuel.
3. 1968, Bee Gee Robin Gibb collapsed, as the group were about to set out on their first US tour. The singer was suffering from nervous exhaustion.
4. 1976, after a four-year legal fight, John Lennon was awarded his Green card, allowing him permanent residence in the US.
5. 1976, Bruce Springsteen sued his manager Mike Appel for fraud and breach of trust. The case dragged on for over a year, halting Springsteen's career. An out of court settlement was reached the following year.
6. 1984, Roger Taylor from Duran Duran married Giovanna Cantonne in Naples, Italy.
7. 1989, Michael Jackson sued the Daily Mirror for libel after they printed a less than flattering colour photo of the ever-changing singer on the front page.

1. 1966, appearing at The Apollo Theatre in New York City, James Brown.
2. 1969, police in Moscow reported that thousands of public phone booths had been vandalised after thieves were stealing parts of the phones to convert their acoustic guitars to electric. A feature in a Russian youth magazine had shown details on how to do this.
3. 2004, Justin Timberlake obtained a restraining order against a photographer who allegedly stalked him. A judge in Santa Monica, California, granted the order against photographer Artemus Earl Lister.
4. 2006, Prince's second wife Manuela Testolini Nelson filed for divorce. His first marriage, to dancer Mayte Garcia, took place in 1996 but only lasted two years.

1. 1953, Born on this day, Patti Sciafa, US singer, worked with The Rolling Stones and on Keith Richards 'Talk Is Cheap' album. Toured with Bruce Springsteen Band from 1984 Born in the USA tour, married Springsteen on June 8th 1991. She has released two solo albums.
2. 1966, Bob Dylan suffered a broken neck vertebra when he crashed his Triumph 55 motorbike near his home in Woodstock, New York.

4. 1974, Mamas And The Papas singer Cass Elliot died from a heart attack after choking on her own vomit. She was staying at Harry Nilson's London flat when she died.

6. 1978, The film soundtrack to Grease featuring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John went to No.1 on the US album chart.
7. 1981, On the day of the wedding between Prince Charles and Lady Diana, a bunch of records were released relating to the event, 'Lady D', by Typically Tropical, 'Charlies Angles', by Mini & The Metros and 'Diana', from Mike Berry. They all failed to reach the charts.
8. 1982, Andy Taylor from Duran Duran married the group's hairdresser, Tracey Wilson during a US tour in Los Angeles.
9. 1986, Producer and manager Gordon Mills died of stomach cancer. Worked with Engelbert Humperdinck, Tom Jones and Gilbert O'Sullivan.
10. 1990, a daughter Eliot Pauline was born by Stings long-time girlfriend Trudie Styler.

2. 1968, The Beatles closed their Apple Boutique in London, giving away all the stock to passers by.
3. 1977, The Bee Gees younger brother Andy Gibb started a four-week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'I Just Wanna Be Your Everything', his first of three US No.1's

1. 1951, American singer, songwriter Ray Charles married Eileen Williams, the couple divorced a year later.
2. 1964, Country singer Jim Reeves was killed in a plane crash when the single engine aircraft flying from Arkansas to Nashville crashed in thick fog. 41 year- old Reeves was the first country singer to cross- over into the pop market.
3. 1968, Tommy James and The Shondells were at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Mony Mony'. Also a hit for Billy Idol in 1987.
4. 1980, Jon Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas was apprehended by FBI narcotics agents for possession of cocaine, he was later sentenced to 250 hours Community service giving anti-drug lectures.
5. 2004, Mark Morrison was arrested after a fracas at Leicester's After Dark night-club in which his platinum and diamond medallion was stolen. Morrison said he was the victim and complained of wrongful arrest, unlawful imprisonment and police assault. A £20,000 reward for the return of the pendant was offered by the singer's record label.
